Free Love are the Glasgow-based duo of Suzanne Rodden and Lewis Cook and they specialise in minimalist seductive Italo/Euro/synthpop/disco. Not only that, but they’ve hit on the terrific notion of Suzanne regularly singing in French and voilá their electronic beats and smooth uplifting synth grooves take on a new sexy fantasy for the listeners – miles more interesting than actually just teaching French.
I was very fortunate to catch them playing live at The Great Escape in Brighton last year and their performance in the One Church located in Gloucester Place was the very best of the 41 performances that I saw during the new music festival.
I had actually checked out these guys music online prior to The Great Escape shows and they were called Happy Meals, but the very morning of their Brighton One Church performance on Friday 18th May 2018, they changed their name to Free Love, which in my opinion is a far better description of their musical vibe and performance, although it must be highlighted that you don’t actually get any physical free love, if you catch my drift. The video that got me hooked was an epic 32 minute live studio session that they recorded and those sounds to me were borderline hypnotic and thus I was swept away! Watch that video HERE.
After my Free Love conversion they unleashed the rather wonderful ‘Playing As Punks’ from the terrific ‘Luxury Hits’ album, which you can enjoy HERE and further listening is available on their Soundcloud page HERE.
Free Love have just announced that they will be dropping a new mini-album of further fine music and the release will be titled ‘Extreme Dance Anthems’ and comes out on 20th September on Optimo Music as a 12” and a digital release. You can watch ‘Bones’ from their forthcoming ‘Extreme Dance Anthems’ mini-album HERE.
Free Love are heading out on tour in support of this exciting new release and will be performing locally in Brighton and the ever popular Prince Albert in Trafalgar Street on Wednesday 13th November. Purchase your tickets HERE.
