A swimmer who suffered a heart attack was rescued from the sea off Brighton beach today.
The man was spotted in distress in the waves near the Palace Pier shortly before 2pm today.
Police and ambulance were called to the scene and he was treated by paramedics on the beach before being taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “At 1.51pm we sent a car and two ambulances to a patient reported to be in cardiac arrest at the Palace Pier.
“The patient was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital for further assessment.”
A police spokesman said: “A man in distress in the water was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital as a precaution. There was no further police involvement.”
A passer-by said the man was conscious as he was being wheeled off the beach by paramedics.
