Spinningchilli have announced details of their 10th John Peel Night, celebrating the life of the late great DJ (30th August 1939 – 25th October 2004). The fun filled event is taking place in Brighton at the Green Door Store located underneath Brighton’s main railway station on Saturday 12th October 2019.
Doors will open at 7:30pm and on the bill will be the legendary Piranhas, Cult Figures and Simon&thePope.
The Piranhas who are famed for their massive ‘Tom Hark’ hit, recorded four sessions for Peelie who made a pilgrimage to witness their influential Sunday night gigs at The Alhambra in Brighton. Now known as Piranhas Four+, they’re still fronted by Bob Grover.
Cult Figures will be offering up a mix of oldies, including 1979 Peel fave ‘Zip Nolan’, and songs from their great new LP ‘The 166 Ploughs a Lonely Furrow’.
Simon&thePope are a punk funk drum n bass duo. Simon Charterton drummed for The Higsons who recorded several Peel sessions.
