The Seagulls and the Baggies will have to do it all again in 10 days’ time after a bore draw at the Amex.
The Seagulls had first-half chances through Yves Bissouma, Florin Andone and Anthony Knockeart but couldn’t capitilise on having the lion’s share of the possession.
The anticipated clash between Gaetan Bong and Jay Rodriguez didn’t happen as neither appeared in the respective match-day squads.
Albion’s new signing, reportedly the tallest player in England Dan Burn, who measures an impressive 6ft 8in, looked comfortable along side Shane Duffy as Lewis Dunk rested on the bench.
In the second half the Seagulls went close as West Brom keeper Jonathan Bond pushed a Dale Stephens shot on to the post.
The Midlanders then got the wins in their sails as Harper flashed a shot wide.
Then out of nothing Adiarboyio saw an effort come back of the Seagulls cross bar.
The Seagulls final two efforts came from substitutes as first Viktor Gyokeres saw Bond push a shot wide then Glenn Murray forced Bond to turn away his fierce drive.
Brighton and Hove Albion play Fulham at Craven Cottage next Tuesday (29 January) then Watford at the Amex next Saturday (2 February) – both matches in the Premier League .
