Out of the Hat, Long Nose Puppets. Komedia, Brighton, Dec 2018
Long Nose Puppets, Brighton’s most beloved children’s puppetry theatre company, returns with a beguiling new show for 2-8 year olds. The company, which saw considerable critical success and delighted audiences with shows such as Arthur’s Dream Boat and Flyaway Katy, is headed by ‘Penguin’ author Polly Dunbar and Katherine Morton, who also performs in Out of The Hat.
The story of two adventurous and brightly coloured birds, Delilah and Doris, it follows their mission to create the world’s best magic show. Along the way they are helped by some unforgettable characters – enchanting fireflies, a singing frog, and an irascible stick insect, to name a few. The company is adept at creating shows which include and captivate even the youngest audience members while still appealing to older children (and their parents!).
The space at Komedia was low-key and comfortable with cushioned floor seating so movement is encouraged, and you can get up close to the action. The skills of the puppeteers and the intricate well-designed sets created an enchanting experience, added to by an original soundtrack by none other than Tom Gray of Gomez- fame!
Currently touring, the show will undoubtedly return to its home-town nest in the near future so make sure you catch it when it does!
