Brighton and Hove awoke to a light dusting of snow this morning (Wednesday 21 November) as the mild autumn made way for freezing temperatures.
Although light rain quickly melted the overnight sleet and snow, drivers warned to take care on the roads.
The snow covering was mostly confined to the estates around the edges of Brighton and Hove and higher ground.
The railways appeared to be running relatively normally despite the snow after two days of disruption, starting when weekend engineering work overran.
There were some delays but theses were blamed on signal problems between Gatwick and Redhill.
Any light rain or drizzle in Brighton and Hove is expected to peter out as the morning progresses, with the wind speed – gusting at times up to 20mph – fading though still feeling chilly.
Temperatures are forecast to climb to 7C – or almost 45F in old money.
