A Hove road was closed off this morning after police received reports that a distressed man living there might have a gun.
Wilbury Crescent was closed off for more than an hour after armed police arrived at the scene shortly before 11.30am.
The man was later detained and is now in hospital for assessments.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called to a flat at Wilbury Crescent, Hove, at 11.20am on Monday (12 November) after concerns had been expressed for the welfare of man who is the sole occupant.
“The reports suggested that he may have access to a firearm, but there were no threats and no shots.
“Police resources were quickly deployed to the immediate area which was contained and there was no threat to the local community.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Tingley added: “The objective was to resolve the situation peacefully and without any injury to anyone, and this was achieved when officers entered the property at 1pm and spoke to the man who has been taken to hospital for an assessment of his health.”
