A doorstep conman stole more than £700 from a pensioner in Peacehaven after posing as an official from the “water board”.
The bogus workman said that he needed to check the 85-year-old woman’s taps.
Sussex Police said today (Monday 12 November): “Detectives investigating a distraction burglary in Peacehaven in which a man stole more than £700 from an elderly woman have issued an e-fit image of the suspect.
“At around 2.45pm on Tuesday 30 October the suspect visited an address in Arundel Road, Peacehaven, claiming to be from the water board.
“He asked to check the taps and was allowed in.
“But while the 85-year-old householder was distracted, he stole £735 in cash, along with bank cards and other paperwork.
“The man then left on foot.
“He is described as white, 30, 5ft 6in, of medium build, with slightly curly light-coloured hair cut short at the sides.
“He was wearing a navy blue jumper with a logo on the left breast.
“Anyone with any information is asked to report it online or call 101 quoting serial 681 of 30/10.
