Albion lost at Cardiff despite Lewis Dunk putting the Seagulls into a sixth-minute lead when he headed in a Solly March free kick.
Callum Paterson equalised for Cardiff after Albion failed to clear their lines just before the half hour.
It got worst for Albion as Dale Stephens was sent off for an innocuous looking challenge on Greg Cunningham.
Albion held out for a majority of the second half. Florin Andone replaced Glenn Murray and again looked useful.
Albion even had chances to go back in front towards the end but it was the home side celebrating.
As the ball pinballed around the penalty area, Sol Bamba fired it in to the roof of the net in the last minute.
