A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman from Brighton in woods near Steyning.
Sussex Police said that he had been “released under investigation” while inquiries continue.
The force said: “Detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Steyning have arrested a man.
“On the early evening of Thursday 20 September, the 38-year old Brighton woman had been in the town centre and the offence took place in a nearby wooded area.
“As a result of inquiries a 45-year local man has been arrested on suspicion of the rape.
“After being interviewed he has been released under investigation.”
Detective Sergeant Kirsty Murray, of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit, said: “We are grateful to local people who came forward with important information following our appeal for witnesses on (Wednesday) 3 October.
