A coalition of city businesses who work to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour around Brighton and Hove has welcomed its 500th member.
Sainsbury’s Preston Road this week joined the Brighton & Hove Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), making it the largest BCRP in the UK.
Established in 1999, Brighton BCRP now has members ranging from large multiple retailers to small independent traders and the vast array of pubs, clubs and restaurants for which the city is renowned.
It works with both Sussex Police and the city council and initiatives like its radio network and sharing intelligence and up to date images of offenders via a secure website.
Lisa Perretta, BCRP Manager said: “This is a fantastic milestone for the BCRP which demonstrates excellent partnership working not just within the city centre, but also with businesses on the outskirts of the town. We are committed to assisting the business community across Brighton and Hove to reduce crime and the fear of crime.”
Andy Crowhurst, Zone Operations Manager, Sainsbury’s South said: “The BCRP are working tirelessly to make Brighton and Hove a safer place to live, work and shop. Sainsbury’s and Mitie are proud to be members and even more so to know that Sainsbury’s became the 500th member. It is a fantastic achievement and shows just how well the BCRP works in the city.”
The BCRP also provides crime prevention training, runs restorative justice sessions and operates an Exclusion Notice Scheme which bans prolific offenders from all BCRP premises.
Using intelligence gathered from members and the Police, the BCRP also refers offenders to partner agencies to secure support to address their offending behaviour in order to reduce the chances of re-offending.
