A 62-year-old man from Hove was due to appear in court this morning after an armed siege in a quiet street two days ago.
Guy Spencer, 62, of Isabel Crescent, Hove, has been charged with trying to cause grievous bodily harm to a police officer.
Spencer was arrested after firearms officers were called to Isabel Crescent shortly before 2.45pm on Thursday (31 May) after a report that a man might be harming himself at the property.
Afterwards, Sussex Police said: “The man was alleged to have attempted to wound a police officer who first arrived at the address with two knives.
“Other officers were then called including firearms officers.
“It was established that there was nobody else in the property.
“Just after 4pm the man came out of the address voluntarily after talking to police officers and was safely arrested, without incident, on suspicion of attempted wounding with intent.
“Police took possession of several knives.”
Spencer was charged, kept in custody and was due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Saturday 2 June).
