A Brighton man who was found unconscious in the centre of town was suffering from serious head injuries.
Police believe that he may have been attacked from behind as he was walking near The Level.
Sussex Police said: “A man who was found unconscious in Brighton on Saturday evening (26 May) was later discovered to have serious head injuries.
“The 27-year-old man, from Brighton, had left friends in London Road and took a side street to The Level around 11.15pm.
“He was aware of being shouted at by a number of people but the next thing he recalls is being helped into a taxi and taken home.
“The following day he was not feeling well and went to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where he was admitted for treatment for serious but not life-threatening head injuries.
“It is believed that he may have been attacked from behind.
“Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information about it is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 342 of 28/05.
