UPDATE: The pilot of the jet which crashed and killed 11 people at the Shoreham air show pleaded not guilty to manslaughter at the Old Bailey this morning (Tuesday 15 May).
Andy Hill, 53, of Sandon Road, Sandon, Buntingford, Hertfordshire, appeared before Judge Richard Marks, the Common Serjeant of London.
Judge Marks ordered a pre-trial review at the Old Bailey on a date to be arranged at the end of October.
Hill remains on unconditional bail.
He will face a trial by jury – expected to last five to seven weeks – starting on Monday 14 January.
Hill was flying a vintage Hawker Hunter jet which crashed on Saturday 22 August 2015 during the Shoreham air show.
He has been charged with 11 counts of manslaughter by gross negligence and one count of endangering an aircraft.
The inquest into the 11 deaths will be further postponed until after the criminal case is over.
The 11 who died in the air crash were
Maurice Abrahams, 76, of Brighton
Dylan Archer, 42, of Brighton
Tony Brightwell, 53, of Hove
Matt Grimstone, 23, of Brighton
Matt Jones, 24, of Littlehampton
Graham Mallinson, 72, of Newick
Daniele Polito, 23, of Goring
Mark Reeves, 53, of Seaford
Jacob Schilt, 23, of Brighton
Richard Smith, 26, of Hove
Mark Trussler, 54, of Worthing
The expert assessment is that there would have been no accident if the organisers had followed the rules:
“If that rule alone – which had always been there – were to have been applied strictly at Shoreham in August last year, the crash would not have happened. Indeed the Hunter routine that led to disaster would either have been banned or modified considerably to make it comply with existing rules.”
