A trespasser on the line has stopped all trains in and out of Brighton this morning.
Southern Railway announced all lines are blocked at 6.29am this morning. At 6.52am, one commuter posted this picture of the trespasser seemingly being escorted by a member of rail staff along the track through Preston Park Station.
The commuter, tweeting as @anjobanjo10, said British Transport Police arrived soon after. The lines were reopened at about 7.45am.
Southern tweeted: “We strongly advise passengers going to or coming from Brighton totravel later this morning as currently services are unable to run to or from this station.”
Delays and short notice cancellations are expected to continue until 11am, and rail tickets are being accepted on different routes.
This includes mutual ticket acceptance between Southern and Thameslink services.
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to Brighton rail station this morning following reports of a person on the tracks. The call came into police at 6.16am.
“Officers attended and a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of trespass. He is currently in police custody.
“Train services were cancelled for around an hour as a result of the incident.”
