Southampton 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Albion moved up to 15th in the Premier League after a spirited performance at St Mary’s.
The Seagulls went a goal up just before the quarter hour mark.
Wesley Hoedt brought down Solly March and Glenn Murray slotted home the resulting penalty.
It was pretty much one-way traffic after that, with Southampton in the ascendancy.
The Saints’ best chance of the first half fell to Pierre Hojbjerg as he charged down Maty Ryan’s clearance but the ball rebounded on to the bar.
Southampton drew level just after the hour. It was a scrappy goal as James Ward-Prowse scuffed his free kick into the ground and Jack Stephens nudged it home from close range.
Leo Ulloa made his second debut for Albion with 13 minutes left and he created a good couple of chances for Dale Stephens.
The last chance fell to Steven Davies but Ryan saved well from the Southampton man.
Next for Albion, West Ham United at the Amex, with a 3pm kick off this Saturday (3 February).
