The A259 coast road was closed as paramedics treated a motorcyclist who was injured in a crash with a van in Saltdean this afternoon (Friday 5 January).
The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in the crash which happened at about 4pm on the westbound side of South Coast Road near the corner of Hamsey Road.
Sussex Police said: “At 4pm on Friday (5 January) a van and a motorcycle collided on the A259 South Coast Road in Saltdean at the junction with Hamsey Road.
“The man riding the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and no update on his condition is available at this time.
“The road was closed while the casualty was attended to and for the scene to be investigated and drivers were advised to avoid the area if possible for the time being.
“No further details available at this time.”
Brighton and Hove Buses ran shuttles from stops in Peacehaven and Saltdean on either side of the accident site.
The company also diverted some services via Rottingdean, Woodingdean, Falmer and the A26.
Southern Rail was accepting tickets from bus passengers trying to travel between Brighton and Newhaven.
