One of Brighton and Hove’s leading community groups is to throw open its doors for its annual general meeting (AGM) tomorrow (Wednesday 8 November).
The Hangleton and Knoll Project will be putting on displays, presenting an update on its activities and providing light refreshments.
Awards and achievement certificates – including for volunteer of the year and young leader of the year – will be handed out by two of Brighton and Hove City Council’s most senior executives, Pinaki Ghoshal and Larissa Reed.
The event is scheduled to take place from 7pm to 9pm tomorrow at St Richard’s Community Centre, in Egmont Road, on the Knoll Estate, in Hove.
The Hangleton and Knoll Project works across the generations with activities and support for children and young people, parents and over-50s.
In part, the AGM is intended to be a celebration of the wide range of activities supported by the Hangleton and Knoll Project.
They include English lessons for non-native speakers, IT training for beginners and the Hangleton and Knoll Health Forum.
The project – a registered charity – was set up 34 years ago and has provided a model for other community groups across the area.
It describes its broad aims as
- to assist and support existing community groups and to work with local residents to set up new groups as they are required by the community
- to act as a facilitator for external services wishing to provide services to the community residents
- to promote and support the development of community buildings, parks and open spaces
- to encourage the participation of local residents in all forms of voluntary activity, education and employment which may improve the quality of life in Hangleton and Knoll
