Old fashioned rockers The Darkness have just released a new song which lambasts Southern Rail.
Southern Trains is to be the fourth track on the Lowestoft band’s fifth album, and yesterday a video which makes liberal use of Snapchat filters was released at the same time it was made available for download.
The swear-heavy lyrics include: “It’s a journey into pure despair / There are ****ing assholes everywhere / I can smell this sad *** in the air / **** you, southern trains, we’re not getting anywhere.”
In a post on Facebook yesterday, lead singer Justin Hawkins said: “This song has genuine realness in it, innit. Dan and I had to endure the Southern Trains ‘services’ during the making of this album.
“They are utterly incapable of running a reliable service. Fact. The rest of the world is laughing at us. I hope this song goes some way towards facilitating change…”
In December last year, Hawkins tweeted:
Southern Trains have never been able to provide a reliable service. The only difference today is that the AssClownery is deliberate.

The album was recorded entirely in Cornwall, and is being released next month, ahead of a UK-wide tour the following month.
The Darkness are due to play Brighton Dome on December 11. It’s a fair bet that they won’t be arriving by train.
“Assclownery” is going to be my word of the day.
