A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a house fire in Peacehaven in which a pet dog died.
Six fire engines were sent to tackle the fire at a house in Cissbury Avenue, Peacehaven, including crews from Preston Circus and Roedean in Brighton.
Everyone was accounted for and no one was reported to have been injured.
Sussex Police said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent (to endanger life) in connection with a fire at a property in Cissbury Avenue, Peacehaven.
“A 20-year-old man from Peacehaven, was arrested following reports that a fire had broken out at 7.50pm on Monday 11 September.
“The owner of the house was not inside the property at the time of the incident.
“Fire and police attended and the man was arrested at near by.
“If you witnessed the incident please report online or call 101 reporting 1181 of 11/09.”
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service received the first call about the fire shortly before 7.50pm on Monday. The final crew left just after 9.20p.
The fire service said: “During the incident eight breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two main jets and one hydrant were used to extinguish the fire.”
