An investigation is under way after a fire damaged a third floor flat in Hove in the early hours of this morning (Friday 8 September).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 1.25am four appliances were mobilised to the terraced property in Cromwell Road, along with the aerial ladder platform and command support unit.
“The fire was located on the third floor and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet and one main jet to tackle the fire.
“A fire safety inspection was carried out following the incident and a fire investigation is being carried out this morning.
“East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is issuing safety advice around keeping safe in the home and precautions that can be taken to help reduce the risk of fire.”
The fire service added: “If you don’t already have them, please get yourself a smoke alarm for every level of your home.
“They will give you an early warning of a fire, enabling you to get to safety and call the emergency services.
“There are specialist alarms available for anyone who cannot hear the standard alarms. These include lights and vibrating pads which can go under pillows.”
