Dozens of firefighters have spent the afternoon battling a blaze in a field in Falmer, close to the Sussex University campus.
The cause of the fire, off Ridge Road, is not known and an investigation is now under way, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.
The fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has left the scene of a fire in a field near Falmer.
“We were called at 12.52pm on Wednesday 16 August to the scene off Ridge Road.
“Six fire engines and four four-wheel drive vehicles were sent to tackle the fire.
“As of 4.30pm, the incident was over.
“There are no reports of injury.”
