A man has been arrested on suspicion of starting a fire at a Brighton restaurant, Sussex Police said this afternoon (Tuesday 20 June).
The 52-year-old Hove man was questioned about the fire that started at La Tana, in Ladies Mile Road, Patcham, in the early hours of Sunday morning (18 June).
Sussex Police said: “Police investigating a suspicious fire at a restaurant in Patcham have arrested a man.
“The blaze broke out at La Tana in Ladies Mile Road at about 12.30am on Sunday (18 June).
“East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire.
“No one was present in the property at the time. However, the occupants of the flat above the restaurant were evacuated as a precaution.
“A 52-year-old Hove man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life, two counts of criminal damage, blackmail (and) possession with intent to supply class A drugs and released under investigation.
“Police are appealing for anyone with any information about the incident to report it online quoting serial 50 of 18/06.”
