A man has denied dangerous driving in a high-speed chase through Brighton when he appeared before Brighton magistrates today (Thursday 13 April).
Richard Woolgar, 35, of Donald Hall Road, Brighton, was accused of racing down Lewes Road at 80mph in a Vauxhall Zafira on Tuesday 10 January, undertaking in the bus lane and hitting a speed of about 70mph near Brighton Racecourse.
He was first spotted speeding round the corner from Coldean Lane into Lewes Road, prosecutor Andrew Walker told magistrates. He drove at speed up Coombe Road, Bear Road, along Warren Road, where he overtook a bus, and into Freshfield Road.
Woolgar was remanded on bail to Lewes Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Thursday 11 May. He was ordered not to drive in the meantime.
