A Brighton man accused of being a drug dealer missed court last week to go to his doctor because he was worried that he might have cancer.
But yesterday (Monday 20 March) Brighton Crown Court was told that 28-year-old Ashley Richardson – also known as Ashley Gunner – may just have piles.
Richardson, 28, of Springfield Road, Brighton, faces trial by jury on five counts of having drugs at the Royal Albion Hotel, in Old Steine, Brighton, in November last year.
The drugs include diazepam as well as stimulants such as mexedrone, mephedrone, gravel (chloro-alpha-pyrrolidinopropiophenone) and n-ethylpentylone.
After a series of questions Judge Janet Waddicor told Richardson that he could remain on bail despite missing court last Thursday (16 March).
But she wanted evidence that he was having a genuine investigation such as an endoscopy and for the court to be informed of the outcome.
She remanded him on bail until Wednesday 19 April.
