An unregistered BMW set alight in a Portslade park was seen crashing with another car and then fleeing the scene at high speed along the seafront, it’s been revealed.
Brighton and Hove News reported that the car had been torched and dumped yesterday, and readers commented that they had seen a similar car racing along King’s Road moments before.
Police say that they were told that evening that the car had been in a hit and run – but could not find any trace of the crash when they attended the scene.
THey are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have information to contact them.
A spokeswoman said: “Police received information from a member of public reporting a fail to stop road traffic collision on the A259 junction with Osborne Villas at Hove, on Friday (10 March) at 10.20pm.
“It was reported that one of the vehicles involved, a metallic silver BMW had suffered considerable front end damage before making off towards Portslade.
“An initial area search by officers could not locate a scene but further calls identified a vehicle matching the description of the BMW which had been set on fire in Vale Park, Portslade. East Sussex Fire and Rescue dealt with the blaze which was deliberate. However firefighters were unable to say exactly how the fire was started.
“A witness reported seeing three men run from the vehicle just before the fire but they could not provide descriptions.
“Officers have received no reports of a road traffic collision from any other drivers and there is no registered owner for the burnt out vehicle.
