The fight kicked off at the Grand Central pub in Surrey Street at about 8pm on Saturday night, after Brighton and Hove Albion beat Reading FC 3-0 at the Amex Stadium.
However, police said that this was an isolated incident, and fans thronging the city centre were “lively but largely good-humoured”.
There have been no reported injuries.
