A bus driver escaped almost unhurt after having to be freed from his cab after a crash with a car on the Lewes Road.
The crash happened between a double decker bus and a car at the junction of Natal Road yesterday at about 5.30pm.
Three fire engines from Roedean, Brighton and Lewes were called to the scene. A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “A driver was stuck in the cab but unable to exit and was rescued by crews.”
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said that it had received a call, but had been stood down en route.
Brighton and Hove Buses Managing Director Martin Harris said: “I can confirm there was an incident between one of our buses and a car yesterday evening at 17.20 at the junction of Natal Road and Mithras House on Lewes Road.
“Police and fire services were called. Neither driver nor passengers were hurt in the incident which involved impact to the front of the bus. Passengers were transferred to another bus to complete their journey.”
A police spokesman said: “Emergency services were called to Lewes Road, Brighton at around 5.20pm on Monday (30 January) following a collision between a car and a bus.
“The bus driver was mechanically trapped and freed by firefighters. There were no serious injuries reported.
“The road was clear by 7pm.”
