Spotting Brighton’s most well-loved Australian rock star as he makes his way around town has become something of a pastime for city residents.
But a selfie with Nick Cave which has gone viral was taken by a man who didn’t even know who he was.
When New Zealand man James Malcolm, 21, saw fans asking the Bad Seeds singer to sign their t-shirts, he said he didn’t want to feel left out, so he took a selfie with him.
And to find out who he was, he posted it on Twitter and asked his followers.
Can someone please tell me who this celeb is? Everyone was asking him for pics and I didn't wanna feel left out pic.twitter.com/s67vF5rZKZ

Shortly afterwards, he got on a flight, and turned on his phone’s airplane mode – and seven hours later, his tweet had thousands of likes and retweets.
When asked why he took the photo despite not knowing who Nick Cave was, he said: “Everyone else was asking him for a photo and I wanted to find out who he was in a fun/cheeky way + I felt left out + I luv celebs.”
