A wanted Brighton man was arrested just a few streets away from the police station, Sussex Police said this afternoon (Monday 19 December).
The force said: “Robert Cole, who was wanted for recall to prison for breaching the terms of his release licence, has been arrested.
“He was seen by a police officer who arrested him in High Street, just off Edward Street, in Brighton, on Monday afternoon.”
Earlier today the force issued an appeal for help tracing Cole for the second time in two months.
On this occasion he was part way through an eight-week sentence imposed at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 26 October for having an offensive weapon.
Cole, once described by police as “a prolific shoplifter” who “was imprisoned for theft offences”, had been arrested the day before.
As happened today, his arrest came just hours after a similar public appeal.
