Councillors in Brighton and Hove have chosen the mayor for the year after next with the unanimous selection of Councillor Dee Simson.
She will become deputy mayor in May, following Councillor Mo Marsh, who will step up to become mayor in place of Councillor Pete West.
She was proposed by the opposition Conservative leader Councillor Geoffrey Theobald who said: “Dee has been a councillor since 1999. She has been a real community champion in Woodingdean and across the city and a champion of the voluntary sector.
“She runs the community centre, the youth centre and the community café in Woodingdean.
“I’m sure that Dee is going to make a really good mayor of this city.”
After being deputy mayor for a year, Councillor Simson will take over as mayor from Councillor Marsh.
