Bin day leaflets latest victims of swingeing council cuts

Brighton and Hove City Council will not send out refuse and recycling calendars this year as it continues to do everything it can to plug a huge budget hole left by massive cuts to its Government grant.
tuesday_2
Mailing out a calendar to every household costs the council about £25,000 a year, money which could be spent on other hard hit services.

However, anyone who still wants a copy can either print one from the website, download one at your local library or call 01273 292929 and the council will send one to you.

This week, it is reminding residents that their rubbish collection days are unchanged over Christmas and they should put out their refused and recycling on the usual day.

Refuse and recycling will be collected on all weekdays over Christmas and New Year, including Monday 26 December, Tuesday 27 December and Monday 2 January.

If you need to check your collection day, you can find the information online by entering your postcode here.

Recycling at Christmas

Food and drink

Plastic bottles can go straight into your recycling box or bin, but remember to give them a quick rinse them and remove any plastic tops or lids.

Drinks cans, food tins, empty aerosols and glass bottles and jars can also go in your recycling box or bin along with egg boxes, cardboard sleeves for food packaging and all tin biscuit boxes. Remember to keep your glass in a separate recycling box or bag so it doesn’t contaminate the other materials.

Wrapping paper and cardboard

Please only recycle wrapping paper – foil or paper covered in glitter can’t be recycled.

Flatten any cardboard boxes and paper bags to make space in your recycling bins and boxes. You can also visit a community recycling point or one of the city’s two recycling centres.

Christmas trees

Christmas tree recycling sites across the city will be open between January 2 and January 14.
