Comedian Steve Coogan will switch on emoji-themed Christmas lights in the city centre this year at a free street party with music provided by Phats and Small.
The party will begin in East Street next Wednesday at 5pm, joined by Brighton producers Kideko and George Kwali, as well as Theatre Workshop and the Dionne Slater Singing Group.
Western Road’s lights feature words and emojis such as Fairy and Ding Dong, with more traditional lights in the North Laine and The Lanes.
Gavin Stewart, CEO of event organisers Brilliant Brightonsaid: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s big Christmas light switch-on, it’s a great opportunity for the city’s residents and businesses to get together and celebrate Brighton at the most wonderful time of year!”
“We hope to see as many people come down and join the party, as well as taking selfies with their favourite lights too!”
A raffle will raise money for Rockinghorse, with prizes including a made to measure Gresham Blake shirt, a cut and blow dry from Simon Webster Hair and a Choccowoccydoodah chocolate truffle advent calendar.
