Firefighters have been putting out what they described as a “serious house fire” in Portslade this afternoon (Tuesday 11 October).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that crews were called at 1.50pm to the fire in Oakdene Gardens, Mile Oak.
The fire service said: “Fire engines from Preston Circus, Hove and Roedean attended the incident along with the aerial ladder platform.
“The house – a semi-detached property – was well alight. It’s believed the fire started in the kitchen and spread to the rest of the house.
“Crews used six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one main jet.
“As of 5pm two fire engines remain at the scene and are damping down and turning over.
“There are no reports of injuries.
“The Red Cross is supporting the occupants of the house.
“A fire investigation is likely to take place tomorrow.”
Last night (Monday 10 October) shortly before 6.30pm fire crews were called out to a house fire in Brighton.
The fire service said: “Two fire engines from Roedean and Preston Circus attended an address in Richmond Terrace, Brighton.
“There was smoke in the house from a kitchen fire.
“Crews used two breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and a CO2 extinguisher, as well as a PPV fan to clear the smoke.
“There are no reports of injuries.”
