Albion progressed to the 3rd round of the English League Cup. After goals from debutant Sam Adekugbe firing into the roof of the net after just 68 seconds. And also Kazenga Lua Lua , Elvis Manu and Tomer Hemed.
Albion had chances to go further in front. Most notably from Kazenga Lua Lua.
Uwe Huenemier playing his first match for 8 months also had a chance to score.
Despite these Albion chances Oxford equalised through Wes Thomas with 29 minutes played.
Elvis Manu had a host of chances to put Albion back in the lead but was denied countless times by Oxford goalkeeper Simon Eastwood.
Kazenga Lua Lua inched Albion ahead with a crisp drive from the edge of the area past Eastwood.
Josh Ruffels almost put Oxford back level but was denied by a super save from Niki Maenpaa. John Lundstram then hit the bar for the home side.
Soon after for Albion, Manu finally got the better of Eastwood. Poking home under the keeper from close range. After good support play from Danny Holla.
A few minutes later substitute Tomer Hemed turned home a Sam Baldock cross to put Albion in full command.
With a few seconds left Arsenal loanee Dan Crowley got a late consolation for Oxford.
Albion now take on Newcastle United at St James Park on Saturday (27th Aug) in the EFLChampionship. Their first visit to the ‘Toon’ since 1993.
The Sesgulls will also eagerly await tomorrow’s (24th Aug) League Cup third round draw.
