Reading 2 Brighton & Hove Albion 2
The Seagulls drop to second in the league after old boy Paul McShane equalised for Reading with half an hour left to play.
The Royals went in front from a close-range shot from Jon Swift which deceived the recalled David Stockdale after just two minutes.
Six minutes later Reading defender Joey Van Der Berg swept the ball into his own net and Albion were level.
Yann Kermorgant and Swift again had chances to put Reading back in front before half time.
Anthony Knockaert with his third goal in three games put Albion ahead early in the second half, only for McShane, an Albion hero at Palace in 2005, to pull Reading level.
Albion play at Oxford in the League Cup on Tuesday (23 August) followed by a trip to Newcastle in the Championship next Saturday (27 August) evening before the international break.
