A fourth person has been arrested by police investigating a hit and run in Brighton which was caught on CCTV.
The 28-year-old woman was held on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and aiding and abetting the hit and run driver.
Distressing footage of the incident showed a 53-year-old man from Hove, Andy Payne, being flung into the air by a car which keeps driving, leaving him for dead in the road.
Sussex Police said today (Friday 12 August) that the investigation was continuing with three other suspects involved in the case all still on bail.
The force said: “Another person has been arrested in connection with a hit and run in Brighton in January.
“Police are continuing to investigate the hit and run on Thursday 14 January when, at 3.40pm, a 53-year-old man was hit by a Fiat 500 as he crossed Montague Place in the Kemp Town area.
“The Fiat was being driven along Bristol Road before turning left into Montague Place where it collided with the man crossing the road.
“It didn’t stop at the scene and carried on along Montague Place and turned right into College Street.
“A 28-year-old woman from Brighton was last week arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, fraud by false representation, aiding and abetting the driving of a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.”
The three others arrested in the case are
- a 31-year-old man from Brighton who was arrested on suspicion of arson, perverting the course of justice and causing serious injury by dangerous driving
- a 32-year-old Brighton man who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury, attempting to pervert the course of justice and aggravated vehicle taking
- a 57-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice
They have all been bailed until Monday 10 October while investigations continue.
