The inside and outside lanes on the busy A259 Brighton seafront road will be closed for a couple of days next week while cables are installed.
The work is taking place to bring fast broadband to the beach side of the seafront to coincide with the opening of the i360.
Brighton and Hove City Council said: “Brighton’s seafront road will have a lane closed in each direction for two days next week to allow essential internet cabling to be installed for the i360.
“On Monday 25 July both outside lanes of the A259 will be closed opposite the viewing tower. On Tuesday 26 July both inside lanes will be closed.
“On Wednesday 27 July there will be works to the footways on both sides of the road although it may be possible to do some of these earlier.
“The site should be cleared on Thursday 28 July.
“The bus stop on the beach side of the road just east of the i360 will be suspended during the works.
“Drivers should expect delays and seek an alternative route where possible.”
British Airways i360 chief executive Eleanor Harris said: “This is crucial work to connect fibre optics for fast broadband to the beach side of the seafront road for the first time.
“While we would not have chosen this timing, British Airways i360 opens on (Thursday) 4 August and it is essential this is done now.
“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience and thank the council for facilitating this quickly.
“British Airways i360 will be offering the first free superfast wifi on the beach side of the seafront to visitors at the attraction.”
These people have had at least a year to get these cables laid …. so they are waiting until it is really busy and cause us commuting problems getting to and from work!
Has nobody ever heard of the word ‘NO’? Make them wait until the holiday season has finished!
How ridiculous they are allowed to do this in the peak of the summer tourist season. Come on Brighton council you could have said no! They should have done this in the Spring, no excuses
First week of school holidays, would not trust this woman to run a bath, permission should only be granted if they retarmac all of the carriageway both sides upto and including the nearest junctions.
Of course the council won’t say no. i360 has total control over the council and will be able to get away with anything. Seeing how much the council has risked finically supporting this venture they will not say no to anything that would delay its opening.
After a little thinking, one has come to the conclusion, wait until September when the season is all but at an end.
What’s wrong with 4G ? Free, with no digging or cables needed.
Total agree with commits above I360 has had all winter to lay cables but they wait until the peak summer peak sumnmer time Big Business screw the public yet again

Now that Brightoni360holdings Ltd has The Council by the short and curlies to the tune of £36.2m it willuse this every time they want something done and say well how are we supposed to pay back the loan if we cannot operate as we see fit.How much has been spent of the premium the Council receives on the area directly around the base of the i360 and will continue to do so when we have been told the £1m s year will be used aall over the City.
