A banned driver from Brighton has been brought before a court after skipping a date with magistrates to answer a charge of driving while disqualified.
Lewis Gent, 23, of Beaconsfield Villas, Brighton, and formerly of Brading Road, denies breaking his ban and a further charge of aggravated vehicle taking.
Gent is accused of driving off in a Vauxhall Signum from Wilfrid Road, Hove, and damaging it in Sompting.
Sussex Police said that he also faces a charge of driving without insurance when he returns to court on Friday 29 July.
He was accused of committing the driving offences in March. He was charged on Saturday 9 April and ordered to appear in court on Tuesday 3 May but failed to appear.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was brought before Brighton Magistrates’ Court last Saturday (25 June) when he pleaded guilty to failing to appear.
He was bailed until his trial.
