If you spot it all kicking off with loads of police at the Palace Pier or in town this week, don’t panic – it’s just filming for a new ITV drama, The Level.
Hillbilly Films have been filming at locations around the city since April, but today they will be doing scenes featuring actors dressed as police officers, and cars marked with police stripes.
The drama, due to be screened in a prime time slot on ITV this autumn, is inspired in part by co-author Gaby Chiappe’s childhood in Brighton and in April, a dramatic scene was filmed at The Level itself.
Brighton police said today: “We are aware that filming is taking place for a fictional crime drama in Brighton over the next few days. There will be scenes filmed in Bond Street on Wednesday 15 June between 10am to 11am and on Brighton Pier on Thursday 16 June from 5am to 9.30am and again there on Friday 17 June.
“There will be actors in police uniforms and vehicles marked up as police cars.”
Assistant script editor Beth Aynsley told Brighton and Hove News in April: “The story is about the past catching up with you and so Brighton and The Level resonated with our writer. There’s also a sense of something both old and new about Brighton.”
