A Somerset man has been jailed after pleading guilty to 18 sexual offences against young girls in Hove between 1980 and 1986.
Michael Coggins, 68, an undertaker, of Church Street, Alcombe, Minehead admitted the offences when he appeared at Hove Crown Court last week. They involved indecent assault and gross indecency against three girls aged seven to 16 at the time.
Detective Constable Tracey Dixon from the Brighton and Hove Safeguarding Investigations Unit said: “I hope that Coggins’s victims will now find closure after living with the impact of his crimes for so many years.
“We take all sexual crimes extremely seriously and no matter how long ago they happened, we will investigate and we will seek justice. If you are a victim, please call us. Your report will be dealt with compassionately and confidentially.”
Coggins was jailed for four years, placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.
