An arsonist set a skip alight in Portslade yesterday evening (Monday 30 May).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 7.29pm yesterday a Hove appliance was mobilised to a skip fire in a park in Beaconsfield Road, in Portslade, where firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one main hose reel jet to tackle the deliberate fire.”
It was one of half a dozen notable Bank Holiday Monday call-outs. The fire service said: “At 9.46am yesterday Roedean firefighters tackled a fire involving a Ford Transit van in Whitehawk Road, in Brighton, after the engine overheated. Firefighters used one hose reel at the incident.
“At 11.19am yesterday Brighton firefighters rescued one person stuck in a lift in Regency Square, in Brighton.
“At 2.05pm yesterday Hove firefighters were mobilised to a vehicle in Orchard Road, in Hove, after reports of a vehicle leaking fuel. The crew used an environmental pack to make the area safe for the public.
“At 5.53pm yesterday firefighters were sent to the Old Steine, in Brighton, following reports of a fire in the open.
“At 7.18pm yesterday Brighton firefighters were sent to Chailey Road, in Brighton, after a bonfire spread to a fence. The crew used one hose reel to tackle the fire.”
It just goes to show you can’t be too careful!
