Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby has urged dog owners to have their pets microchipped if they haven’t already done so.
The Conservative MP spoke out today (Wednesday 6 April), the day the law changed, making it compulsory for all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales to be microchipped.
Mr Kirby, who describes himself as an animal lover and owner of three dogs, has been helping charities such as the Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club to raise awareness about microchipping.
He said: “A large part of being a responsible pet owner is ensuring that pets are microchipped, registered to a database and that all details are up to date.
“As a nation of animal lovers, we all want a quick and successful reunification should our pets go missing.
“I welcome this new law and am encouraging dog owners to visit the Dogs Trust website www.dogstrust.org.uk for more information on microchipping.”
