Steel supports are to be placed at three locations along the crumbling Madeira Terraces to shore up the structure while a long-term solution is found.
A planning application has been submitted by a Brighton and Hove City Council building surveyor to put supporting steelworks either side of Concorde2, and at the base of the Royal Crescent steps.
Fencing, painted turquoise blue to match the railings, is already being erected along Madeira Drive, and more is due to be put up along Marine Parade to stop people accessing the steps.
In the latest application, the surveyor says: “The proposal is to support the existing Madeira Terrace structure in 3 isolated locations by inserting supporting steelwork.
“This is to ensure the safety of members of the public around the entrance/exit of Concorde 2 and at the base of the Royal Crescent steps, which are to remain open.”
Plans for the long term future of the Terraces are due to be unveiled in late spring.
It’s not known how long they will take to take shape, but workmen putting up the fencing have told passers-by it is expected to be in place for the next three years.
