Traders at the Open Market in Brighton are to run the management company themselves after the previous operator – the Ethical Property Company – terminated its contract.
They have issued a statement which said: “The Brighton Open Market is moving into a new era.
“After a difficult past few months, the Brighton Open Market Community Interest Company (CIC) will be taking over direct management of the market and employment of market staff.
“This will give the CIC greater control of management on the ground and reduce costs moving forward to secure its future operation. Rest assured the market will be here for many years to come.
“The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) has carried out a ‘health check’ of the market and the CIC will be considering its recommendations to improve governance and management of the market.
“The CIC has been encouraged by a great response to its invitation to people to join the CIC board as an independent director.
“The CIC has had to shortlist applicants from a strong field and interviewing of candidates will be taking place soon.
“All this means good news for the traders and customers at the Open Market which will continue to offer everything from fresh produce and everyday needs to that special item.”
