A cult US burger chain is to open one of its first British diners in Brighton in North Street.
The company is set to open about 35 branches after the company which owns Dominos pizza bought the UK franchise last year.
A planning application has just been submitted to put in a new shopfront on the unit in North Street currently occupied by Mucho Burrito.
The UK franchise is being led by Tim Lowther, who told the Propel industry newsletter: “The fast casual dining market is yet to reach its potential and there is most definitely an exciting long term future ahead with huge potential for brands such as Smashburger.”
Smashburger has more than 310 branches, mostly in the US but also in seven other countries. It was founded by former McDonald’s executive Tom Ryan, who introduced McFlurries.
Smashburger is named for the way its burgers are cooked, by smashing the patty onto a hot buttered grill.
Meanwhile, the Mexican street food chain Wahaca has announced its opening date next month, April 15, at the former Strada restaurant
