Two people have been arrested over the hit and run in Brighton, Sussex Police said this evening (Tuesday 26 January).
One of them was hiding on a roof a few streets away from where the shocking smash happened.
The arrests were made hours after Sussex Police released CCTV footage which has been viewed more than a million times.
The force is still appealing for witnesses to come forward and for anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact officers.
Sussex Police said: “A 53-year-old man was left with serious injuries after being hit by a Fiat 500, which didn’t stop, in Montague Place on (Tuesday) 14 January.
“A 31-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman, both from Brighton, have been arrested. The 31-year-old was arrested after trying to hide on a roof in Donald Hall Road, Brighton.
“The man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury, attempting to pervert the course of justice and aggravated vehicle taking.
“The woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
“They are both still in custody at this time.”
Sgt Dan Pitcher said: “We would like thank everyone who has shared the video and given us information.
“We are still appealing to anyone with further information or was in the area when it happened to please make contact on collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.”
Nice work. I hope they are dealt with severely.
Every newspaper high profiled that video today. Unforgettable. Amazing break to have had such good quality CCTV images, from TWO cameras, right on the whole thing.
Maybe people who are so against CCTV will realise that it does have a value and is only to be afraid of if you are doing something you shouldn’t.
I agree 100%
I do not understand the people who never went to the injured persons aid just standing or walking by disturbing the evidence
why isn’t anyone running to this poor man’s aid ??? strolling along like they’re at the park .. that’s as shocking as the perpetrators
