Members of the Chinese community in Brighton and Hove have been holding a fundraising event to pay for Chinese New Year celebrations.
The fundraiser has been organised by the Chinese Education Development Project (CEDP) Chinese Centre, in Fleet Street, Brighton.
The Chinese New Year celebrations are taking place at Clarendon Centre, in New England Street, Brighton, from noon to 4pm on Saturday 6 February. Entry is £3 for adults and free for children.
The year of the monkey will be welcomed with a lion dance, signing, traditional music and dance and food stalls offering festive food.
The organisers of the £20-a-head fundraising dinner also plan to use the proceeds to pay for Chinese school activities and 10 Chinese days in local schools.
The event this evening (Tuesday 26 January) was sponsored by Day’s in East Street, Brighton.
The CEDP was set up 15 years ago to build cultural links between China and Britain. The chairman of the trustees, Hong Lu, was made an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List last June.
