WITH VIDEO: This is the moment a teenager was apprehended by a van full of police officers after reports of a knifeman on the Level.
The dramatic arrest, which began with one officer using his baton after the youth refused to take his hands out of his pockets, unfolded in front of people on their way to pubs and bars in Brighton’s newly fashionable London Road.
Police didn’t find a knife, but did recover a quantity of drugs.
A police spokesman said: “Officers were flagged down by The Level, Brighton, on Friday (15 January) at 8.05pm by a man who said there was a man with a knife on the level. He gave a description of the suspect.
“Officers carried out a search and a youth started to run towards London Road after seeing the police vehicle. He was eventually stopped by officers in London Road.
“He refused to get on his knees and remove his hands from his pockets after being asked to do so by officers so he was brought to the ground and searched. No knife was found but a quantity of drugs were.
“A 17-year-old boy, from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply. He was questioned and released on bail until 21 February.”
Newly fashionable London Road!!! hahaha.
That quote actually made me burst out laughing when I read it.
Surely you must be mistaken as the last time I was there (yesterday) it was still the same old grubby street, with the same old chavs and drunks wondering around looking for something to steal or someone to punch and the same strange people that seem to be drawn towards London road which all look like they could be extras from the film The Hills Have Eyes.
I think there is a hell of a long way to go until that part of Brighton becomes newly fashionable but atleast they are trying I suppose
