A severe weather warning remains in place with heavy rain, hail and thunder forecast for Brighton and Hove for a second day today (Monday 11 January).
The Met Office said: “Bands of heavy showers, with localised hail and thunder, will affect parts of southern Britain throughout Sunday evening and overnight, some places affected more than others.
“The heaviest showers are expected to clear the eastern edge of the warning area, into the North Sea, during Monday morning.
“While some areas will miss the heaviest rain, please be aware of the potential for surface water flooding causing localised disruption to travel, especially given the saturated ground.
“Organised bands of heavy showers and the odd thunderstorm, look like continuing to feed along the English Channel and then coming increasingly into parts of southern England as the flow backs more southerly overnight and at first on Monday.
“Five to ten millimetres may fall within an hour and perhaps 20-30mm through the period in a few spots.”
